19 Jun Opening weekend delivers goals and drama
The Pitchero ACES Nationals 2018 got off to a flying start with four Boys champions crowned across the first weekend.
After a rocking opening ceremony featuring Rezz G and a live draw where teams found out who they’d be playing, it was time to lace up the boots and start the action.
The Boys U9s saw St Albans, Walsall, Northampton and Middlesbrough make the semis and it was St Albans (London Colney Colts, above) who edged Northampton 2-1 (penalties) to seal the title.
Later on Saturday, the U13s age group was decided as South Leicester (above) beat Birmingham 2-0 in the final with the Aylestone Park Youth squad, in their red and white stripes, jubilant as the final whistle went.
After a feast of football in the group stages, Sunday saw the U10s semi-final line-up confirmed as Coventry vs Hinckley and Peterborough vs Northampton. It was Coventry (Coventry Utd, below in yellow) who got the better of Peterborough 2-0 in the final after the match went to penalties.
Next up, the U14s demonstrated how competitive each age group is this year with six groups and 36 teams from Portsmouth to Newcastle and Liverpool to Hartlepool. It was Fleur De Lys representing Portsmouth (below) who ran out deserved winners 3-1 in an entertaining final against North Leicester.
Well done to all those who take part and helped make it a brilliant start to the Pitchero ACES Nationals 2018. Congratulations to all of the winners and now we look forward to the next round of matches:
