2018 Roundup: Scorching goals, saves and weather

There’s been a football tournament everyone’s talking about this summer and it’s not the one in Russia.

The Pitchero ACES Nationals in 2018 was more ambitious than ever before; our junior football bonanza was the largest since it began – with 310 teams.

Here’s a few more stats to give you a flavour for why we think it was a blockbuster…

During three weekends covering June and just into July, we welcomed more than 5,000 players to Nottingham for a feast of football. The support was phenomenal and we think footfall was in the region of 15,000 people when you factor in players, supporters, parents and coaches.

It was a record-breaking 2018 for all kinds of reasons and this year had the highest number of players in action when the U12 Boys and U16 Boys took to the field, that’s 68 teams in one day!

One of the strengths of the ACES Nationals is the scope of the contest with footballers arriving from across England, Scotland, Wales – and even a girls team who came over from Germany.

We don’t have official climate charts but it is safe to say that the weather was the best ever as it coincided with a national heatwave that meant we enjoyed high temperatures and sunshine throughout.

What was the geographical spread when it came to trophies and winners’ medals? We had 4 winners from the North, 2 from the Midlands, 6 from the South and 2 from the East.

You never know…perhaps teams can get a mention in Rezz-G’s next song?

Pitchero ACES Nationals had BBC Breakfast visit the tournament one Sunday around the England vs Panama World Cup game.

There’s also been Premiership, Championship and League One football scouts watching matches to see if they can spot the talent that might be a future Harry Kane or Jordan Pickford.

Thank you to everyone who has made Pitchero ACES Nationals 2018 such a success; it’s been incredible to watch all the teams taking part and we’re already looking forward to 2019!
